AODA.
Ontario's accessibility law, and the one most often missed by organisations who assume the ADA covers everything.
Who it applies to
The AODA applies to organisations operating in Ontario, including private businesses with employees there. Requirements scale with organisation size, with the heaviest obligations on public sector bodies and larger private organisations.
The web standard is WCAG 2.0 Level AA, with limited exceptions for live captioning and pre-recorded audio description.
What is different from the ADA
Two things. First, the AODA is explicit legislation with a named technical standard, rather than obligations settled through litigation. Second, larger organisations must file periodic accessibility compliance reports — the paperwork is part of the requirement, not just the outcome.
If you already target WCAG 2.1 AA for the ADA or the EAA, you are above the AODA's technical bar. The reporting is the part to plan for.
